Toronto jazz pianist/composer Peter Dick features his newly-formed Peter Dick Trio in-studio for his 5th CD release, ABOVE GROUND. The album has an eclectic mix of contemporary jazz tunes by the likes of Bill Evans, Keith Jarrett, Lyle Mays, Steve Swallow and Miles Davis, plus some originals. This is a superb recording by seasoned players with nothing to prove and no agenda other than finding the shining beauty in each piece performed. With Chris Kettlewell on bass and Josh Lane on drums, this trio swings hard but with a light, refined touch. No superfluous notes here - it’s all ‘signal’, no ‘noise’. There are no shortcuts to this kind of maturity, taste and discretion in jazz players. It is the result of a lifetime of playing. Peter Dick graduated from Berklee College of Music (Boston) with a Degree in Jazz Composition & Arranging. He lives and works in his native Toronto, Canada - performing, composing, recording and teaching. He has released 5 CDs - two solo piano, a live concert trio recording, a spoken word/piano collaboration, and the recent 'Above Ground' album recorded in-studio by the Peter Dick Trio. ... more
